ABHYANGA

 

“Abhyanga”, is a sanskrit word meaning oil massage, as well as tender Ayurvedic treatment that involves massage of the body with warm, pre-medicated oil. It gives a deep feeling of relaxation, warmth and stability. Regular Abhyanga practice restores the balance of doshas and enhances well-being and longievity. Abhyanga also promotes restful and sound sleeping patterns, thereby, treating Insomnia. By the use of specialized Ayurvedic medicated oils, dosha imbalance which is believed to be the root cause of all ailments, can be restored and balanced. Eg, the use of sunflower or cocconut oil to restore Pitta dosha imbalance.

SHIRODHARA

 

“ Shirodhara”, is a Sanskrit word —- Shiro means forehead, and Dhara means flow. Shirodhara is a unique form of Ayurvedic therapy that involves gently pouring liquids over the forehead in a slow and steady stream, and this can be one of the treatments under panchakarma. In Ayurveda, Shirodhara is also known as “Third Eye Therapy”, and is quite popular.

The products used In Shirodhara treatments depend on what is being treated, but can include oil, milk, buttermilk, coconut water, even plain water etc.

Specialised forms of Shirodhara treatments can be sub-classified as

KSHEERADHARA—- or DUGDODHARA meaning treatment with milk flow

JALADHARA—- meaning treatment with water

TAILDHARA—- meaning treatment with oil

Kativasti involves retention of warm, medicated oil over the lower back or othe parts of the spine for a certain period. The temperature of the oil is maintained reheating and continuously adding more oil.

In this treatment, the knee joint is bathed with warm, medicated oil or freshly prepared herbal decoction. For acute and chronic knee-pain, Jaanuvasti is the most popular Ayurvedic therapy. It provides magical relief from pain, stiffness associated with knee problems and also long-lasting benefits.
